This morning while elementary children were on the playground, shots were heard in the distance. In an abundance of caution, the teacher moved children indoors and notified the principal. The principal notified me, I had the Sheriff’s office called, and I went directly to the elementary campus. The Sheriff’s department arrived soon after. At first report, it appears that a man two fence lines over was shooting on his land. At no time was there an overt threat to our children. The responding officer went to investigate further. All our schools have established safety plans and response protocols that are designed to ensure the safety of our students and staff. While there was no threat to students this morning, I applaud our elementary staff for their swift, appropriate and cautious actions.
